Call for Gay Marriage, Not Partnerships
2003-11-27 - 11:24 [updated: 2003-11-27 - 11:56]
Sweden´s Ombudsman Against Gender Orientation Discrimination has called on the government to give homosexuals here the same rights to marry as heterosexuals.

Swedish law currently allows for same sex partnerships,
with the same legal rights and responsibilities as marriage.

But Ombudsman Hans Ytterberg says the existence of two separate systems --
marriage and partnerships -- is the last form of discrimination left in the law.

He compares the situation with the "separate but equal" treatment of blacks in the southern United States during the segregation era.
